The term Kinesiology was a huge unknown to me for many years.

When I was talking to my father one day, he introduced me to this method or "therapy" that was supposed to make me feel different, or actually much better. But how? I asked myself. What's so miraculous about it?

After a long phone call and persuasion, I decided to attend such a session out of curiosity.

When I made my first appointment with a very nice lady who already sounded very friendly and helpful on the phone, all my initial nervousness began to subside.

Although I had no idea what I was getting into, upon arriving at her modest little house I was met with a calm, positive atmosphere and freshly prepared fruit tea.

After just a few minutes of conversation and performing the method, it had an incredible impact on me, where I felt a weight that I had carried on my back for years lifted from me. Long hidden emotions, pains, and blockades that had prevented me from living a happy life came to the surface.

In the pursuit of health, many people are turning to complementary practices that enhance the benefits of their core practices.

One such practice that is gaining recognition for its profound influence on yoga is kinesiology. Kinesiology, a system that integrates physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, can greatly enhance your yoga practice and help you better align with your inner self and the universe.

In this blog post, I discuss how kinesiology can be a powerful tool for yoga practitioners, and of course offer examples, explanations, tips, or benefits...

Understanding Kinesiology

Kinesiology, also known as human kinetics, is the scientific study of human movement.

In a spiritual context, however, kinesiology transcends the physical dimension to include the emotional and energetic dimensions.

It uses muscle testing to identify imbalances in the body's energy systems that can then be addressed to promote overall health.

In kinesiology, practitioners believe that the body has the intrinsic ability to heal itself.

By tapping into the body's energy, they can identify stressors and imbalances that may be hindering physical and emotional well-being.

This practice aligns perfectly with the principles of yoga, which seeks to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.

When I first stood in front of the therapist, who listened to my specific problem and the reason I came to her in the first place, she invited me in and began to inspect my wrists tactilely and communicate with my body through muscles, vibrations and triggered energies.

That first appointment changed my life and retroactively resolved several years of long-standing suffering that had been hiding beneath the surface of my consciousness.

How does kinesiology improve yoga practice?

Identifies and releases blockages...

Kinesiologists can use muscle testing to identify specific places where energy is blocked. These blockages can manifest as physical stiffness, emotional stress or mental obstacles.

By removing these blockages, you can achieve a smoother and more effective yoga practice.

It improves awareness of your body...

Kinesiology improves your awareness of how your body moves and responds to different stimuli.

This increased awareness can improve your alignment in yoga poses, making your practice safer and more effective.

Balances the energy system...

Yoga aims to balance the body's energy systems through postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama), and meditation.

Kinesiology can complement these efforts by ensuring that your energy pathways are clear and balanced, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness of your yoga practice.

Now I will give you some practical examples and advice in combination with yoga...

1. Combining kinesiology with yoga postures increases flexibility

During yoga practice, you may notice that some postures are particularly challenging.

For example, if you have difficulty bending over, it may be due to tight hamstrings. A kinesiologist can use muscle testing to determine if the tightness is purely physical, or if emotional or energetic factors are at play.

By eliminating these underlying issues, you can achieve greater flexibility and ease in your poses.

Try seeing a kinesiologist to identify any imbalances.

You will feel different. Then, when practicing yoga, focus on poses that target these areas. For example, if you find tension in your shoulders, incorporate more shoulder-opening poses such as a downward-facing dog or eagle pose.

2. Using kinesiology techniques during meditation reduces stress and anxiety

Yoga is renowned for its anti-stress effects, but if you find that you still get chills during your practice, kinesiology can help.

Muscle testing can reveal hidden sources of stress or anxiety. Removing them with techniques such as tapping or affirmations can help you get into a more relaxed state, making your yoga practice more meditative and calm.

Incorporate simple kinesiology techniques such as tapping during meditation using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

This can help remove emotional blockages and improve your ability to stay present and focused during the practice.

... what benefits does Kinesiology bring us? Definitely long-term...

Deeper emotional healing

Both yoga and kinesiology focus on emotional balance. By combining them, you can achieve deeper emotional healing, releasing past traumas and stresses that may be holding you back.

Improves physical performance

Addressing energy imbalances can lead to improved physical performance. You will find that your strength, flexibility and endurance in yoga poses will increase as your body becomes more balanced.

Improves mental clarity

Clearing energy blockages helps you achieve mental clarity.

This is especially beneficial in meditation and mindfulness practices, where a clear mind increases your ability to focus and connect with your inner self.

Increases spiritual connection

Both practices aim to connect you with your higher self and the Universe. By integrating kinesiology with yoga, you will deepen this spiritual connection and experience a greater sense of oneness and peace.

Kinesiology and yoga together create a powerful synergy that promotes holistic fitness.

Whether you are an experienced yogi or a beginner, incorporating kinesiology into your routine can help you become more in tune with your body, mind, and spirit, leading to a fuller and more balanced life.

I see a kinesiologist regularly who can always help me find the root cause that is deeply rooted in my mind, I attend for regular adjustments, and I am always relieved of the negative feelings and thoughts that keep me from experiencing each new moment with fulfillment in my life.

Start your journey today by researching local kinesiologists and incorporating their insights into your yoga practice.

Embrace the harmony and connection that results from this beautiful blend of practices and experience the profound benefits for yourself...

Do you have experience with seeing a kinesiologist? Do you find the experience of the session to your benefit in life? How is your yoga practice different?
